Retro Releases - Week of 3/7/11 - Bomberman and the Blue Bomber

Some bomber-esque action this week for Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft continues to be the odd one out.

Nintendo Virtual Console:
Bomberman Hero (N64, 1998)
The follow-up to Bomberman 64 has Bomberman travelling through various worlds to rescue a princess who was captured while trying to smuggle a data disk from an evil empire, in a plot device that sounds suspiciously like Star Wars. Unlike Bomberman 64, this is a single-player game that seems to split critics down the middle. Love it or hate it, if you want it, it's available for 1000 Wii Points.

Sony Playstation Network:
R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (Playstation, 1999)
The fourth installment of Namco's popular Ridge Racer racing series features eight new tracks and 321 vehicles to choose from. The main mode of the game is "Grand Prix Mode" which places you as a professional race car driver. You can pick one of four teams, with each team having its own storyline that unfolds as you progress through the game. It's now available for $5.99.

Mega Man 3 (Playstation - Japan Only, 1999)
Mega Man 3 (originally for the NES) was ported to the PSX in Japan around 1999. It's now available for download as a Japan PSOne Classic for $5.99 ($3.00 for Playstation Plus members). This specific port of Mega Man can also be found as a part of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, which is available on the original Xbox, Gamecube, or Playstation 2.

Sony has also brought back some PSOne Disney titles, which are all $5.99:
- Peter Pan
- Lilo & Stitch
- Toy Story Racer
- Monsters Inc. Scream Team
- Toy Story 2
- The Emperor's New Groove
- A Bug's Life

Xbox Live Arcade:
No retro releases.

Other Releases:
- Pokémon Black & White - Pokémania continues with the two newest installments of the Pokémon franchise. With over 150 new pokémon to catch, completing your Pokédex will be tougher than ever. It's available on Nintendo DS for $34.99.
